My name is Grace Amponsah and I am humbled to inform you that I have been selected as a 2019 MILEAD (Moremi Initiative Leadership and Empowerment Development) Fellow- in my recognition as one of Africa’s most promising young women leaders. I am proud to be one of only 26 young leaders selected from over 2,000 applicants across the continent and the diaspora, through a highly competitive process and criteria including our demonstrated leadership and community service accomplishments.
THE REQUEST
The MILEAD program runs a three-week intensive residential leadership training as a key component of the yearlong program. Participating in this training is a requirement for all Fellows. Due to the high demand for the limited Moremi scholarships for 2019, I was awarded partial scholarship (40%) of my participation fee of US $4,500- which covers all program costs including, tuition, travels, accommodation and meals for the three weeks in Ghana. I need to raise the remainder 60 % ($2,700) to top up my participation fee.
Therefore, I would like to respectfully request your support in raising $2,700 to enable me participate in this important program. The first part of the program, which is a three week intensive training at the University of Ghana is taking place from July 10 - August 2, 2019.
ABOUT THE 2019 MILEAD FELLOWS INSTITUTE
The 2019 MILEAD Institute will be hosted by the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon- Accra. It will enable the Fellows to cross-examine concepts of leadership in a broad African context, cultivate the skills and experiences women need to occupy and excel in leadership positions, and gain knowledge on cutting-edge issues critical to African women and their communities. Additionally, experienced and accomplished women leaders who are committed to supporting and nurturing the next generation of African women leaders will mentor Fellows during the period.
WHY THIS FELLOWSHIP IS HIGHLY IMPORTANT TO ME
As a young Non Profit leader running an organization, Bowney Initiative which seeks to support under-resourced adolescent girls to achieve their educational and career goals, this opportunity would not only build my knowledge base, skills and expertise in advancing the lives of women and girls, it also gives me the opportunity to network with successful leaders in the Non-Profit Space to move our work forward. Moremi has a partnership with UN Women, African Women Development Fund and other local development agencies.
