Fighting Cancer

$905 of $30,000 goal

Beginning of this year, my loving husband of 29 years and father to our daughter, Ericka(15), Marian Anghel started having stomach problems, such as heartburn and indigestion. After a while, he couldn’t eat as he used to, which resulted in major weight loss, and he started experiencing a lot of pain. The only way he could get some rest was kneeled and laid on his stomach. We went to the doctor, and had all the tests possible (x-rays, ultrasound, pet scan, and mri). After they couldn’t find anything wrong, we went for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. The initial diagnosis was gastric ulcers, and he was given medication for it. A week later, the doctor called us to his office, and that’s when our lives turned upside down. He told us it’s actually stomach cancer, and he would be referred to an oncologist surgeon. He will soon be undergoing surgery and chemotherapy. He is the main breadwinner, and with him out of work for several months, and  all the medical bills, we will be struggling to make ends meet. I will be spending most of my time with him at the hospital , which is about 60 miles away , so I cannot work. This came as a shock for us , this is not the diagnosis we were expecting.
We are hoping to raise funds for lost income, unexpected medical bills, and any of our family needs, and we know that we cannot do this without the help of our family, friends , and community.
For anybody or their loved ones who has experienced cancer , you must be able to understand how much it can affect your life emotionally and financially.
Absolutely anything helps , so if you are willing to , please donate. I will keep you update it on his prognosis and outcome.

I didn’t post an update in a long time ,so I thing it’s time to do it. After many trips to doctors and more tests,we finally got an appointment for a second opinion this coming Friday. All we could hear from the doctors we’ve seen so far is “chemo is the only treatment “. Honestly, they sound like robots. We’ve read so many articles about new treatments, clinical trials etcetera. Every time we ask the doctors, the answer is the same...there’s nothing out there for you. It is so heartbreaking to hear your doctor saying that you don’t stand a chance, unless you start chemotherapy, but they’re not sure that would work either. I called so many hospitals, even those clinics in Mexico that most people say they’re Heaven on earth. They might be,but the prices they have are exorbitant ($30,000 for three weeks of treatment). I’ve come to think that everything that’s out there is for rich people only, nobody cares about everyday people, let them struggle, let them go through hell and back. We couldn’t find any kind of help whatsoever. We keep fighting with the insurance,so we can go to any hospital we want. Of course that’s not possible, why would it be. It might sound silly or stupid,or however you want to call it,but I even wrote to politicians and celebrities asking for help...nobody answered. I get emails and letters from the same people I asked for help, asking me for donations for their party, for this and that, but when you ask them for something, it’s like you’re talking to a wall. I am amazed about how people jump up and down to help politicians ,raise money for them when they don’t actually need it,I am amazed about how nobody cares about the hard working people, who struggle to make end meets. My husband is a truck driver,he’s been for the last 12 years, and in as much pain as he is,he’s still working, trying to provide for his family as best as he can. I cry every time he leaves the house, worrying that something might happen, and I cry again when he comes back, happy that he made it. It is so hard to see him in pain ,to see him trying to hide all of this from me and our daughter, sometimes I wish I had the power to make it all go away. I not writing to ask for money, I’ve got tired of waiting for a miracle,I’m just writing because I needed to vent a little,I needed to put our story out there for people who are in the same situation to know they’re not the only ones going to the same problems. We’re alone in this country,we have no family,no help whatsoever,it’s just us and God. Happy Holidays everyone and God help us all.

So,I want to share with you what we’ve been through all this months. Like I said in the beginning, my husband had several tests before we found out the terrible news, which was on September 14th, after he had an endoscopy. One of the tests he had , was a Pet-scan on June 15th , which came back negative. On October 08th, the radiologist added a note to said Pet-scan, stating that the tumor was actually there from the beginning. Now,I’m asking myself , why they couldn’t see this from the very beginning, why we had to loose so much precious time? Why the doctors are so careless,do they really care only about the money, are the patients only a number for them? So many questions, and no answers. Now they tell us that it’s spreading fast. If we knew from June what’s going on, maybe the chances were different, maybe we could have done more. I am mad, sad, angry,I want to scream... but who’s going to hear my pain, who’s going to care about all this? I guess nobody . It was just an honest mistake, that’s what they keep saying. A mistake, like we’re talking about the flu being mistaken for a cold. This is CANCER, it’s not a flu, it’s the worst of the worst. We wanted to go to Cancer Treatment Centers of America ,but of course, the insurance says no,they’re out of network,we’re not going to pay for it. So , we’re stuck with a bunch of incompetent doctors, that don’t give a ... about you. I attached the Pet-scan results ,so you can see for yourself . For everyone out there, who deals with this horrible disease,or know someone sick,be aware, doctors make “honest mistakes “,that can kill you. I don’t know what we’re going to do,how we’re going to deal with this from now on,we don’t have the resources to seek treatment somewhere else, all we have left is praying hard. Please, pray for us,and spread the word, people need to know what to expect from the “caring doctors” in this country. God bless!

After my husband had a second endoscopy and cat scan last week, the final diagnosis is stage 3 stomach cancer. We were told that it has spread to 8 lymph nodes in the proximity of the stomach. He will start an 8 cycle chemotherapy on October 19. I am pleading to anybody who knows what a cancer patient and his family are going through,we need all the help we can get, even a prayer will help now, anything at all. I know there are many ,many people who need help for medical or any other reasons,so why should my case stand out,why should people donate to someone they never met? I don’t have the answer to that except that we are really struggling financially because of this. I’m just hoping that people out there still care and still help each other because that’s how we were raised, to help someone in need, even if it is a stranger. So once again,to anybody who cares and wants to help, please HELP!
