The Nuts Challenge for DDH UK

Donation protected
As you all know, my daughter Amelia was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia at 6 weeks old and as a result he has been through a hell of a lot more than most young children would.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a condition where the 'ball and socket' joint of the hips doesn't properly form in babies and young children. It's sometimes known as congenital hip dislocation or hip dysplasia. The hip joint attaches the thigh bone (femur) to the pelvis. The top of the femur (femoral head) is rounded like a ball and sits inside the cup-shaped hip socket. In DDH, the socket of the hip is too shallow and the femoral head isn't held tightly in place, so the hip joint is loose. In severe cases, the femur can come out of the socket (dislocate).

In Amelia's case it was pretty severe and both of her hips were completely dislocated from birth.

So far she has had uncountable amounts of appointments, x-rays, ultrasounds, physiotherapy including 3 operations and 3 general anaesthetics.

This has been a stressful journey not only for Amelia, but for us (her parents). When Amelia was diagnosed we had no idea what DDH was, what it involved, how it is fixed etc and it was a very very dark time for us. But in this dark time, we found some light... and that was with a charity called DDH UK Charitable Trust and Hip Dysplasia Support Group founded by a now wonderful friend Natalie Trice who goes above and beyond to support families. This charity has been invaluable to us as a family, we have met lifelong friends, become experts when it comes to DDH and generally had somewhere to vent, celebrate and realise we are not alone. Without this support from Natalie and the support group we may have had a very different journey.

So as thanks to this charity I am taking part in The (Winter) Nuts Challenge on Saturday 2nd March 2019, a 7k course . (Giving myself plenty of time to train!) I will encounter mud, a water assault course, climbing, crawling and challenging obstacles all the way round - but this is a fraction of what Amelia has encountered on her DDH journey.

My aim to is to raise awareness of DDH and also to help raise funds to help keep this charity going, for the benefit of other families experiencing similar journey's to ours.

Please help support me in my challenge & in thanks to DDH UK help raise as much money as we can.
