While scrolling through the news first thing Saturday morning I read a heart breaking article describing a Montreal homeless man's desperate struggle to find warmth for his Doberman named Buddy. Christian tried desperately to gain access to Berri-UQAM metro, but it was closed and he was refused access. Buddy passed in his arms shortly after.

My heart goes out to Christian and wish I could have shared something we all take for granted. Warmth.

I am trying to raise $2500 with the intention of helping out 25 Montreal individuals who have a dog but either lack shelter or the means to ensure their furry friend stays warm this winter.

The $100 per individual will be spent on a dog jacket, dog boots, hand warmers ( https://hothands.com/), survival blanket ( https://shop.heatsheets.com/) as well a toque and gloves for the dogs owner.

I will be accepting donations of dog food, dog treats, blankets, gloves, hats, winter coats and anything else to assist our furry friends and their owners this winter.

With the assistance of a Montreal outreach program, items purchased and donations will be given directly to the dogs and their owners.

We have surpassed our goal and I have turned off donations. I want to thank everyone who took the time to share, post, comment, donate or help in any way. As well as Canine and Co for their generosity.

We will be getting the donation bags directly into the hands of those who need it the most with the help of Plein Milieu an organization who’s mission is to assist Montreal’s homeless ( http://pleinmilieu.qc.ca/)

I encourage you all to reach out to the city of Montreal and demand more resources for social housing and more mental health workers on the street.

A final breakdown of the donated funds is below.

Thank you all again.

I want to thank Claire from Canine & Compagnie for her immensely generous donation of 25 dog sweaters and 25 pairs of boots. If you are in the NDG area please go support this local business! Given that a portion of the planned spend has now been fulfilled by a physical donation I will be adjusting the budget to purchase more items for the dogs owners. More details to come!
