Will you be Hunter’s Hero?

Donativo protegido
This sweet little boy is Hunter, a happy fun-loving 7-year-old who has been in the hospital for the last 14 weeks.  Together we can #StandForHunter and make a difference for him and his family!

Hunter has a very rare type of Dwarfism and suffers from severe Kyphoscoliosis (severe deformity of the spine).  He has been in and out of doctor’s offices, hospitals and therapy centers his whole life, and right now it’s no different.  On April 23, 2019, Hunter underwent MAGEC Rod Surgery to place rods in his back to straighten out his spine that had grown to a 90-degree curve.   The surgery lasted 13 hours due to complications, and landed Hunter in the Pediatric ICU.

The new rods that were going to give him better mobility instead caused spinal edema leading Hunter to lose feeling below the waist.  Being sedated and incubated for such a long procedure also took a huge toll on Hunter’s lungs.

For the past 14 weeks
this little happy fun-loving boy has suffered through things that no child should have to endure.  While being treated for spinal shock following surgery, he has had several rounds of pneumonia, numerous infections, and multiple other health issues that are common with spinal cord injuries and hospitalization.

 A little from mom, Shannon:

“This has been a truly unimaginable experience.  To see your child suffering for days and weeks on end with little you can do as a mom has been truly heartbreaking.  And now as reality sets in, it’s becoming more and more obvious that life will never be the same for this little boy.  The surgery that was meant to improve his quality of life has very possibly caused permanent damage.”

We have started this Go Fund Me account to ease the burden for his parents, Dan and Shannon.  Not only have they had to deal with all the stress of this situation but the family has had to be separated, splitting time at the hospital (which is over 50 miles away from home) while also still caring for their younger son, Brooks, who also suffers from the same rare form of Dwarfism.

Over the next days, weeks, and months ahead there will be more time in the hospital resulting in stays away from home for the whole family, more surgeries, more physical therapy, and then once Hunter is released from the hospital more work will begin as they all get use to a new life with a child with limited mobility. Any support you can give will enable Hunter's parents to be able to concentrate solely on Hunter’s needs and recovery!

As you can imagine the current costs associated with Hunter’s 14 week (and still counting) medical stay has taken a financial toll and there is more to come.  There will be a lot of costs associated with bringing Hunter home such as:

·         Making their home wheelchair accessible
·         Moving his bedroom to the 1st Floor
·         Converting a vehicle to transport a wheelchair
·         Medical equipment for home
·         Ongoing nursing, therapy, etc.
·         Unforeseen medical expenses.

Any amount you can give is truly appreciated and we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family as well.  You can even use the hashtag #StandForHunter if you post to social media.

We thank you for your support.
God Bless each and every one of you!
