UPDATE November 16, 2018: Jeff and D.J. have been rescuing animals on the "CAMP FIRE" their stories are amazing and sad to read.  They have been sleeping in their truck usually only 5 hrs a night.  This experience has been heart wrenching for them.  Here's a Facebook post from D.J. from day 5 of their rescuing: Day 5.... another somber day and that proof that faith and prayer works. While driving around this morning searching and doing welfare checks, we went up a road we knew had chickens that we had been feeding and watering. When coming back down the hill, after checking things, we saw a dog in the road running as fast as he could. He darted up another side road. I jumped out and began tracking him. Sadly he was super fast and we lost him. Jeff caught up and mentioned he had seen what was possibly a llama on top of a hill. After searching and finding nothing of the dog we walked back towards the trailer and the hill. When walking back, our friend Jim walked around looking for the dog. He began yelling for help. We ran up the hill, to find a severely burned sheep standing in a pasture surrounded by other sheep that had passed away. How she was alive is beyond me, let alone 5 days. There is now words to describe how bad she looked and barely hanging on. She could not walk and we could not carry her as it would hurt her to badly. Her wool was crispy and her body oozed as well as many other things. We were trying to figure out how to get the trailer up the hill. We found an old road thst would work, but trees had fallen over it. Too big for us to move. I stayed with her bawling as I watched her struggling to breath trying to figure out how to get her out. We had no options. I kneeled next to her, holding her to help her stand. Bawling and praying to Jesus help us.. I continued crying and asked him to show us a way and to help us. Not even 2 minutes later we saw the power company coming in. They stopped and Jeff told them what had happened. They pulled out chainsaws and cut the trees. The trailer was in and she was loaded. We rushed her down the hill. We transferred her to another truck at the line. We thought for sure she would be euthanized. Tonight we found out they transferred her to UC Davis vet hospital. I credit God to saving that sheep and that dog. Another day again tomorrow . Thank you Jesus for allowing us to be shepherds to your sheep....

ORIGINAL Info from Summer 2018: In the midst of this summer’s terrible and tragic fires there have been 2 people who have a heart of gold and a passion for animals that have been giving of their time, effort and finances by rescuing animals.  They don’t just rescue them, they care for them as well providing them food, temporary shelter, safety, medical care and lots of love.  They don't do it for the recognition or the glory, they do it because of their love of animals.  Who are these HERO’s and why are they doing this

Jeff Schulz and D.J. Longbrake have been going into evacuated areas, providing rescue, emergency transport, and medical care to animals from the Klamathon Fire, the Taylor Creek Fire, and now the Carr Fire.  They have rescued well over 1,500 animals big and small. They not only help transport the animals out of harm’s way,, but also help transport the animals back to their homes when it’s safe for them to return.  All this is done at their own expense with no expectation of payment or re-imbursement.  They go long hours with no meals and no sleep or even a comfortable place to sleep when they do finally get to stop for a few hours.  They travel side by side with the fireman behind fire lines looking for these animals that need rescuing.

For various, heartbreaking reasons, some of the animals they have rescued have no human owners. Jeff and DJ brought home one mama cat, 15 kittens, two goats and one puppy. Currently they are housed at Jeff and D.J.’s homes and also at the homes of family members. Their goal is to find each one a forever home. Ideally, they would like to spay and neuter them too, but that will cost money as well.

Jeff and D.J. are doing this all at their own expense.  They have received some contributions from some family and friends.  But, the expenses are so much more than they can really afford to pay out of their own pockets.  Neither one is going to their jobs (thankfully they have understanding employers).

If you would like to contribute to their cause please feel free to donate and share this GoFundMe with your friends

If you would like to open your heart and home and adopt one of these sweet rescued animals, please leave a message for us here and someone will get back to you.
