Wheels and Legs for Brendon

Donation protected
I'll give you a little insight on just a little bit of my foster brother Brendons Hendleys life. Brendon has had a hard life since the moment he made his entrance into this world.  He was born with no legs, and has 1 arm. The other, missing from the elbow. When he was young, he had surgery to correct his  eyes. His eyes suffer from  Amblyopia and strabismus (which is poor vision, and eye misalignment) which he needs another surgery to correct. He had his appendix taken out a couple of years ago as well as other health issues. Brendon has suffered depression and anxiety due to a hard upbringing being disabled. I'm sure most of us couldn't even imagine how hard day to day life would be without all of our limbs. During his teenage years he had an opportunity to get a job in a wheelchair maintenance shop which within months was shut down due to lack of business.  This job gave him the taste, the ambition and hope to be able to work and earn money for himself and his future. Since he tried his hardest with no prevail in being able to get a job in any sort of industry as people haven't given him the chance. All Brendon wants is to be as independent and capable as everyone else.  He can't really go to the beach, he can't go to clubs or drive or play football, hes never been to a concert or in a school performance, he is judged by most people from his disability instead of his personality, he isn't given opportunities to work, and socially it's been a very hard time as well.  He decided he wanted to drive, and made his own way around just to feel that he is capable and he fits in etc for once. He was then arrested and put in jail for 6 months. Brendon trys so hard to be as independent as can be though obviously he his limited in many ways. He has two dogs to keep him company as he lives alone. His wheelchair is very old, warn and falling apart as pictured above.  WHAT WE NEED: We would love for Brendon to have his wheelchair replaced. In everyday life we have obviously more than 1 pair of shoes - and brendons wheelchair is essentially his shoes so to say. As you can see in the picture above its literally held together with duct tape. A new wheelchair will cost atleast $3000 - $5000 as he needs a custom built one for him.    We would also like to finally get him the corrective eye surgery on both eyes so he can see clearly, and have a little more confidence in himself. The surgery can range from $2500 - $3700 per eye and is not covered by medicare. OUR DREAM: Long term we would absolutely love to save for a proper electric wheelchair for all purpose weather, that way he can get from a to b faster, be able to carry his own shopping and just generally get out of the house more.  We have also looked into costs for prosthetic legs which could be upto $50,000. Prosthetic legs generally last from 3 to 5 years but ocassionally can last more depending on the amount of useage. There are also special stubb socks that are replaced regularly and shrinkers possibly needed.  BRENDONS DREAM: He dreams of being able to drive a car to become more independent. We have only just started researching into this and have seen prices range from $30,000-$80,000 so I can update more when I have more solid figures of that. These cars are specifically designed for disabled people to safely, and legally drive so they don't have a need for constant help from others.  As I said it is a dream, and I'm not sure if it's something that we will ever be able to achieve. But I have positive spirits and high hopes that if the community can pull together and even donate small amounts, it all adds up and we can firstly get him what he desperately needs, but then he is those steps closer to his dream.  If you could please donate a little if you can afford to.. any amount helps. But even taking the time to share this around to your friends, family and community I appreciate each and every single one of you.  Edit: I have left the goal at 20k at the moment for the wheelchair and his eyes Inc. Consultations, once we can afford the wheelchair I will update you all and then next stop eye surgery. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR TIME READING, YOUR COMPASSION TO SHARING, THANK YOU FOR YOUR HEARTS DONATING .
