We are Mattisa’s family and friends. We have set up this GoFundMe account for her 16 year-old daughter, Kerstin, who’s had Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Hip Dysplasia and lung-threatening scoliosis since birth.
Mattisa is a single mom living alone in Hayneville, Alabama (population 1,000). She’s spent all of Kerstin’s life taking care of her, by herself, while working part-time to cover bills. Full-time work is impossible since she must keep Kerstin with her 24/7 and get to weekly doctor and therapy appointments.
For now, however, Mattisa needs our help. A lot of Kerstin’s basic medical needs, weekly doctor and therapy visits, and hospital stays are covered by Medicaid. But many costs – such as a special $3000 car seat, diapers, repairs to her 2002 van, and gas (it’s 100 miles round-trip to the nearest doctor or therapist, and 300 miles round trip to Children’s Hospital) - are not. These bills have mounted up and have gone beyond what Mattisa can afford by herself.
