Wheelchair Ramp for Central Baptist

Hello!  My Name is Seth Goodson and I am working on my Eagle Scout project; tearing out and rebuilding the wheelchair ramp for the Learning Center at Central Baptist Church in Manor, TX .  The current wheelchair ramp is falling apart and is being supported with plywood at this time.

Central Baptist Church is a small, but mighty hub for activity in our small town.  The Learning Center is an important part of the day-to-day operations for Central Baptist Church.  Our Sunday School meetings for those 5 and under are held here, and it is the go-to place for anything not occurring in the chapel itself. 

Central Baptist opened its doors to the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts here in Manor when many other places would not.  We have a  Girl Scout program as well as an active youth group that meets weekly and even has started a fitness club.  The Learning Center has hosted the town’s football team for dinner as well as other events that help to keep the youth in our small town active in healthy, productive ways.  The church itself is also the place of worship for many veterans in our community, including one that earned a Purple Heart.

The biggest need for this ramp is that the building is also the home of a food pantry that serves roughly 50 families per week.   This is a huge help to our community that had a median income of just $40,455 in the latest census.   Another reason this project is near and dear to my heart is that my fellow scout from Troop 4277 uses a wheelchair and attends church here.  The current ramp is inadequate and is too steep to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
