Meet Gabi. She is 4 years young and full of smiles, laughter, and a strong will that will get her far in life.
She is a lover of books, Minnie Mouse and princesses and adores playing with animals. Above all else, one thing is for sure. Gabi absolutely LOVES her family. She is the youngest of three sisters, and their strong bond is something fierce.
What you may not know, is that Gabi also has a genetic disorder known as Neurofibromatosis. This disorder causes benign tumors to form on nerve tissue, and can cause complications such as hearing loss, learning impairment, and loss of vision. Gabi’s family has recently learned that she has several tumors growing on her optical nerve, and it is causing vision loss. Gabi’s team of doctors has recommended she begin chemotherapy to help shrink the tumors in size, and to prevent any further loss in vision.
The apple does not far from the tree they say, and this is true. Gabi's mother, Megan Workman has the same sweet and caring personality as her daughters possess. She is driven to provide the best for her family, and she attains this by working a full time job.
Gabi will begin her first round of chemo treatments starting this week, and will continue for a 10 week time period. A second round of chemotherapy will begin during the summer months. As medical expenses, ferry and travel costs, and time off from work begin to accrue, this family will need some loving support.
