Wendy's Soft Tissue Sarcoma

As a mother of three I refuse to give up this fight. There has not been a lot of research done about my disease compared to others because this disease is so rare. It is called Re-current Diffused Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis. It is proliferative and attacks joints and the connective tissue. This disease is extremely painful and debilitating. I have already had 5 tumors removed through multiple surgeries done at once on my left leg. I had an anterior and posterior synovectomy to remove the diseased connective tissue within my knee joint and my thigh muscle, which was intertwined with tumors. At the age of 33, I was on a walker during this extremely painful and long rehabilitation process where I learned how to stand and walk again.

There is hope. Recently a few cancer research hospitals have started to develop chemotherapy drugs that are believed to target the cells that grow the specific tumors with in the connective tissue.

The tumor growths have returned in my left leg. My options are few to almost none in regards to treating this disease. Currently, the closest facility I can receive the specialized treatments is approximately a 10 hour drive from my residence. Over the course of the next 6-12 months (possibly longer). The treatments will require me to travel regularly to this facility for medical care, treatment, therapies, testing and the recovery process. This treatment will be recorded for medical study.

Funds received through this website will be used for my travel expenses, medications, therapies, and additional medical costs not covered by insurance and after treatment to have a shower installed downstairs in my home due to my limited mobility. The only shower is on the second floor and is extremely painful for me to climb the stairs daily. We have already used all our savings in an attempt to turn our garage into a bedroom for me so I don’t have to climb the stairs as often. Moving to another home is not an option for us at this point in time.
I truly believe that these medical treatments and associated therapies will not only enhance the quality of my life but could someday benefit others afflicted with this disease.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you will consider contributing to my chance for a cure.
