Garrick's Stroke Recovery Fund

As many of you heard, Garrick has had a stroke. This stroke is quite a bit worse than the one he had in 2015, but he is recovering. First, I want to thank you all for your outpouring of love as we go through this. It really means a lot to Garrick, me, and his family. Many of you have been asking me (Alissa, hhis girlfriend) how you can help and that is why I'm starting this GoFundMe campaign. I wanted to wait until we had more information about Garrick's situation before I went forward with it… that's why it's taken me over a month to put this together.  I wanted a full assessment. Here's the story: On February 4th Garrick suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke caused by a clot that traveled to his brain.  The doctors don't know where the clot came from, but they think it had to do with his atrial fibrillation. The stroke took place in the right side of his brain and therefore primarily affected the left side of his body.  Thankfully there wasn't much damage to his cognitive abilities, however, he was unable to feel or move his left side after the stroke. He is now out of the hospital and in a skilled nursing facility getting rehab. He has regained some sensation on his left side and is able to lift his left leg a bit!  Garrick is very determined to make a full recovery, however, we don't know how long it's going to take. It's a slow process and the doctors / therapists say everyone is different, so it could take a few months or it could take a year. We just don't know,  though we're hoping for the quickest recovery possible. They are very impressed with his determination and the amount of work he's done so far. Now that I know Garrick’s recovery may take a while and have found out about how much this might cost, I've decided to start this GoFundMe.  It looks like after insurance the skilled nursing facility will cost roughly $2,200 / month. Garrick has applied for Temporary Disability Insurance, but that will only cover a fraction of the cost. We are looking into Medicaid or other assistance, but he has not been approved for any of that yet. Any donation would be helpful. As many of you know living in Hawaii is a bit on the pricey side. So while most of your donations will go directly to the medical bills, some may go to paying his existing bills since he'll be out of work for some time. I'm helping with his finances as much as I can so I hope you trust me to get your donations to where they need to go to help Garrick out.
