We're hosed without a vehicle!

Ok, so as many of you know, Alaina had her big brain surgery in March. We had hoped for a full cure for her epilepsy, but after a few months seizure free, she has begun again having several seizures per week. So our hopes that she would be able to drive again and try to find employment any time soon have been dashed.
Not as many of you know that I lost my job of 11 years in February. With her then upcoming surgery and the long recovery time that comes with it, she relied on me to be there with her pretty much constantly, luckily I had a fair amount of 401k money left, and I was able to be there for her like she needed.
Well, now we are out of those savings. And my car broke down on Thursday. It needs a new engine. We've already replaced it once before, it's not worth doing again for an '08 HHR, and I don't have the money anyway.
Anything you can spare to help me get a down payment on a used Prius would be amazing. Even if I have trouble finding other work moving forward, I know that with a more fuel efficient vehicle than what I was driving, with modest monthly payments, I can keep us afloat doing what I was doing. But I can't do any job I can't get to. If we get to the goal, it's possible we may even be able to find a super cheap one to buy outright, and we would love you forever.
I hate asking for help. I wouldn't be if I saw another way out of this. Thanks, fam.
