Vanessa Aquino of Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines had everything going for her. She got the looks and the brains. The future looked promising as she was set to graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering this year.
Until that day in April 2019 when she started complaining of severe headaches that led to seizures. She was brought to the hospital several times because of frequent episodes of seizures. Her world and that of her family's was shattered with her doctor's diagnosis: autoimmune encephalitis.
Autoimmune encephalitis refers to a group of conditions that occur when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells , leading to inflammation of the brain.
From a young woman who is set to conquer the world, she was reduced to a frail girl who depends on a constant supply of oxygen to help her breath and gastric tube to nourish her weak body. Her family spends P3, 000 a day for her treatment.
As her family refuse to lose hope and continue to struggle to keep Vanessa breathing and living, we ask that we share their burden. We are asking for any help that you can extend to get this young lady back on her feet--literally and figuratively. Let us make the future possible for this young soul and give her a fighting chance.
