We Employ People with Special Needs

Chef Helen and "Dr." Robert Gottesman are creating a non-profit cafe "Delicious Spoonfuls"with the purpose of training and employing people with Special Needs. We adopted our son Adir, who has Down Syndrome  in 1994, and immediately got him all the traditional and alternative therapies.  He always surpassed the expectations of medical and educational experts.  I was told it was because I did not accept things as they were. Helen has been a Kosher Personal Chef for over 10 years. Helen also worked in the local elementary school with children with Special Needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Ceredral Palsy and Behavioral Issues.  Helen and Rob also ran a kosher group home in South Florida and taught cooking to the residents for the first time in their lives. We saw the difficulty adults with Down Syndrome, Autism, and Physical Challenges had in obtaining and keeping decent jobs and making a life for themselves after High School. We want to address that! We plan on a kosher, dairy ice cream bar and cafe with a 50's theme which will train and employ individuals with Special Needs as chefs, sous chefs, servers, dishwashers and more depending on their strengths. We are searching for the appropriate affordable location as we need not only a kitchen that can accommodate our cafe's needs, but also a learning and meeting center. Part of our goal is to create an area where we could have local experts  teach ceramics, basketweaving , photography and other art skills to our current and prospective staff members.  Our meeting areas could be used for parties, networking events and more. We need funding for start up costs such as logo, non-profit status, marketing, and later for equipment (another fundraiser?)  Please let us know if you would like updates, want to help or know someone that would be a good fit for Delicious Spoonfuls.
