Who are we?
   Waves of Strength is a non-profit organization that helps children in the Southern NJ area that may be in disadvantaged situations, have a critical illness or limited mobility by giving them the wherewithal to experience the therapeutic and exhilarating experience of surfing in the ocean.
   Waves of Strength truly believes in the healing power of the ocean, in the concept of “surf therapy” and its positive effects on cognitive and physical development, self-esteem and personal growth, as well as stress relief and socio-emotional wellbeing.
  We believe that regardless of the situation the children may be in, salt water has the power to heal. The sensational wonder of riding a wave and spending a day at the beach has the power to make the troubles in one’s life seem a little bit easier to tackle after a surf session in the ocean. 

Who will benefit?

Local children within the LBI,NJ region with special needs, illness, limited mobility, living in poverty or a dysfunctional environment.

 
What we will do with the funds:

This is a non-profit and currently self funded. Although a web domain and logo/branding have already been purchased, we still need to fund the following:

-Design and Launch WavesofStrength.org

-All fees and legal costs to formally register as a 501c3 organization

-Purchase of equipment to run the program: soft foam surf boards, rash guards and wetsuits, specialty equipment for the limited mobility children, administrative support, etc.

-All marketing and event planning for the 1st annual event to be held this summer in LBI, NJ

Why do We Need Funding?

The surf experiences that we offer the children are going to be free. They will be made possible by a team of local instructor volunteers and the financial generosity of our donors. We will not solicit from the families that we serve and we never will. Although our founders and our volunteers will collectively put in hundreds of hours a year, no one will take a salary. Every dollar that is donated will go directly into funding our surf experience camps for these children.
