Water For Guinea

Clean Water Changes Everything

663 million people in the world live without clean water.  In Africa over 5,000 children under the age of 5 die each and every day.

Imagine caring for a loved one that is sick from drinking bad water, by giving them bad water.   Now, add to that a horrific virus that is deadly and easily transmitted.

In 2014 Ebola swept its way through Africa. Communities were devastated, families dissolved as mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters died from the virus. Family members and the community stood by helpless as the virus spread.

Although we don't hear about it, the virus is still present.  Two years later the virus remains but because of safe practices and increased education offered in communities people are now aware of what will bring Ebola back and threaten society.

At Donka National Hospital, the largest medical center in Guinea, families can find respite. But even as the hospital welcomes all and cares for any family that arrives; the hospital struggles to provide the basic necessities for a healthy environment like water.

Clean water is a corner stone to providing an environment that is clean and sterile – allows patients that may suffer from diarrhea, dehydration and other ailments to recover more quickly.

Clean water is needed for basic personal hygiene; for the sanitation of medical supplies and facilities; for preventing contamination from victims and corpses; and for the Ebola survivors healing from infection. It is paramount at every step of the way: prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Clean water also allows nurses and doctors to clean patients, new borns and it helps improve the recovery rates for the 200 monthly cesarean births of the 700 babies born each month.

ACBC and it’s partners recognize the importance of water as a basic necessity for any hospital caring for patients and being a good stewards for the community.  Guinea struggles to provide the resources needed to improve conditions.  Guinea Embassy/ACBC has reached out to partner with the Guinea Government and the city of Philadelphia to improve the conditions in Donka.

We desperately need your help.  Our goal is to raise enough money to provide the main hospital in the country with a Water Purification System.  We are also going to provide at least 4 other clinics throughout the country with Water Purification Systems.
