Water Relief

We believe in the power of every individual to have an influence in our world and be an agent for change. We have been inspired by the work of Bhante Wimala, a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, a compassionate spiritual leader, and a tireless humanitarian who is making a difference in the lives of people impacted by some of the most devastating conditions around the world. From helping survivors of a typhoon in the Philippines to enabling war-torn individuals to rebuild their lives in Sri Lanka, Bhante is one individual shaping the future of many people around the globe and igniting change on a global scale.

The Avoca Group invites you to be a change maker by contributing to Bhante's mission of bringing water to 165 families in Mankha, Nepal, who lost their source of water in the earthquake that struck in 2015. Bhante Wimala has a proven track record of successfully addressing this issue in other mountain villages in Nepal. His work involves visiting the villages, assessing the situation, engaging with local villagers and determining innovative solutions that sometimes involve networking with outside experts, the government, hydroelectric engineers, the military, and construction crews. We have been impressed with the ease and grace with which Bhante leads each of his projects, despite the harsh conditions under which he works and the seriousness of the problems he addresses. He employs what, to business gurus, may seem like sophisticated Change Management/Engagement Models, but from Bhante's perspective, his methods are common sense. He is clear about the purpose and vision of each project. He assesses the risks and opportunities, and based on that, constructs a comprehensive plan. He engages partners. He empowers the individuals who will be most impacted to be part of the change. And he is focused and works efficiently, because lives and human health are at stake. It is a model that has had repeated success.

At Avoca, we want to be part of the change that is needed in Nepal and are helping to raise funds for Water Project #21. This effort is in conjunction with the Avoca Quality Consortium’s 2017 theme of Changing Landscapes: Shape the Future, where we are creating the foundation for companies in the pharmaceutical industry to be agents for change in transforming clinical trials to be operationally efficient and of the highest quality. Bhante’s approach to Water Project #21 is a powerful model from which all industries can learn, and an inspiring example of how each individual can be a catalyst for big change.

About Water Project #21: Bhante visited one of the impacted villages called Mankha in the Sindhupalock district on April 12, 2017. Here, he saw firsthand the suffering experienced by the families due to lack of accessibility of water. In order to provide this basic necessity to their families, the women must trek down a mountain to fill their pots at a water source that is miles away, and then trek back up the mountain with the heavy, water-filled pots—a process that takes hours.

The solution: A pipeline will be built to bring water to the village from a new source only 2.5 miles away from the center of the village. Three taps will be set up in three different locations of the village so that women can have easy access to water. Additionally, the funds we raise will help with the installation of one water storage tank. The villagers have already committed to volunteer their time for some of the construction work.
Here is a video that shows the success that Bhante had on one of his previous water projects and where you can visualize how your contribution will make a difference.

We are raising $15,000 for Bhante to address this problem. Every dollar counts and any contribution to this worthwhile effort would be much appreciated. Your contribution will go directly to Bhante Wimala’s non-profit organization, Triple Gem Society.

Please help us help Bhante Wimala to bring water to a community that needs it today, and please spread the word!
