I was looking forward to celebrating my 5th year anniversary of being Desmoid Tumour free this September. However, a spanner has been thrown into the works!
In 2012, I was diagnosed with a rare type of Tumour, a Desmoid Tumour to be precise. By July 2012, I had a few months to live as the tumour was rapidly growing and becoming life threatening. My only solution was to undergo a radical life-saving surgery to remove the tumour, which at this point had grown to 17cms and weighed 1.5kgs.
Together with my parents, I travelled to Apollo Hospital in Delhi, India in September 2012 and underwent a successful 8 and a half hour surgery. The result was, I lost my entire left abdominal wall muscle. To keep my body upright and insides intact, the doctors inserted a synthetic prolene mesh to protect my insides from spilling out!
I enjoyed a relatively calm 4 years of recovery, consistenlty running MRIs every 3 months. By September, 2016 I was completely tumour free and eager to re-start my life.
So this September, understandably, I was really looking forward to celebrating my 5th year Desmoid Tumour free anniversary. Unfortunately, a recent development has arisen. Two months ago, in May 2017, I started suffering severe bouts of uncontrollable pain at the area of surgery. By June 2017, imaging results revealed that I had developed a hernia, in the mesh resulting in my intestines getting trapped ocassioning pain, discomfort and suffering.
I therefore, urgently need to undergo major corrective surgery in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi, India. I’m appealing for your prayers and financial support during this journey as I fight Desmoid Tumours and the resulting complications.
