Walter Yost - SF Vet Needs Help!

I am Roger Beck, a retired Army Ranger and friend of Walter Yost.  I created this page to assist in raising funds for one of America’s heros.

Walt Yost, Jr. is a Viet Nam veteran who served with Co C, 5th SFG(A), RVN assigned to A-109 Thuong Duc SF/CIDG Camp.  He served two tours in Viet Nam and was awarded a Bronze Start Medal w/V device, for actions during an ambush on 2/25/68, and a Purple Heart for his injuries suffered during the ambush.  The firefight was intense and two Special Forces solders lost their lives and a third had to be medevacked out of country.  Walt served his country as an Enlisted man before going to Officer Candidate School and becoming a Commissioned Officer.   Walt eventually left the Army during the draw down, in 1972 after bravely serving his country for almost 7 years.

On December 9, 2016 Walt told his wife Val, that he wasn’t feeling very well.  They went to the hospital where Walt underwent major heart surgery.  Sometime during the surgery, six bypasses and two repairs to a torn aorta, Walt suffered a series of mini-strokes.  His body is recovering fine from the heart surgery but the mini-strokes left him in an unconscious state.  He was transferred from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s ICU to Select Specialty Hospital-Tallahassee, FL where he can remain for up to 40 days.  A group of former Ranger and Special Forces veterans are doing their best to assist Val in navigating the VA and looking for after-care options for Walt.  The road to recovery is going to be a long one and Walt is going to need specialized care for some time.

Funds raised will be used to pay for the mounting medical expenses, provide funds so that Val can visit her husband (their house is 50 miles from the hospital) and if any remain, then make some much needed repairs on their house for when Walt eventually comes home.
