Journey to Jerusalem

About Mark

I am an British Officer (Retd) who retired due to a serious back injury. For years I suffered - I could not walk to the toilet unaided and spent over six months unable to leave my home.

The doctors told me to walk.

The Walk

I set off on the 01st of April, 2016 - from the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, the southern most tip of Gibraltar - the southernmost point in all of Europe, Africa only 20 km away across the Straits of Gibraltar.

Now - at the time of writing I find myself near to Genoa, Liguria - Italy, some 135 days and 3500 km into my Walk to Jerusalem.

I have walked through Spain and through France and seen wondrous things and met wonderful people. My journey has taken me through severe floods, up snow capped mountains, across fast flowing rivers, and along ancient Roman roads - the path I walk is older than the nations it passes through.

So far, I have worn out 5 pairs of sandals - suffered extreme summer heat, had blisters and aches all over, and got lost more times than I care to remember!

My 8500 km journey continues - on to Rome, then Jerusalem.

My walk is unsupported - I carry all my stuff in my rucksack and pay for my food, my lodgings, and all my needs.

Who I support and Why

My target is to raise £30,000 in the year it will take me to complete my Walk to Jerusalem.

All the money that I receive goes to supporting these charities -

There are many worthy causes that deserve attention and I hope to raise both awareness and money to support them -

TAROURARTE EDUCATION CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION – a charity hoping to advance the academic and vocational education of children in the village of Taourarte, Morocco.

THE RG BENEVOLENT FUND – support to serving and retired soldiers and their families.

THE GBC OPEN DAY - a local charity which raises monies for a variety of local charities.

POR UNA SONRISA – For a Smile - An association created to improve the quality of life of children and adolescents in the Campo de Gibraltar who are undergoing cancer treatment.

Last year I raised £17,000 for charity by walking from Cardiff to Gibraltar, and from the sales of my book of the walk -  Walk to the Rock

Please help me achieve my target so that together we can help those in need.
