Help me dad be independent!

My dad David, is a strong hard working man. Not only is he that, but he's adventurous , fun,  and always on the go. Even without his legs. And that's where it all started..

About 4 years ago my dad became a uni lateral amputee and no more than a year later he is now a bilateral.  When these procedures were done, my dad was about stripped of it all. He  lost his confidence and gained all the  glares.  But with confidence and being "forward focused" which Paul Mitchell "temple" taught me, he overcame many obstacles. With the new moto of being forward focused, he can now walk on his new legs , drive a car again, play golf again, and his main goal, to ride a motorcycle again.

When my dad was going through rehab to walk again, he decided then that he would be a strong advocate to visit these type of centers and offer support. So that's what he did. Now, my dad needs help from us.  2 weeks ago while undergoing a routine endoscopy , his heart stopped for almost 10 min and because of this he became anoxic. Which means no oxygen to the brain.  With the hard work of doctors, he came back. But now, he barely knows who I am. With extensive care and a long road ahead  at a cognitive/neuro therapy facility, my dad could be able to walk and talk again.

While insurance is nice to have, it also has a limit. And we are about to hit that.  There's no gentle way to tell anyone that 1 months care at the facility he is at is going to be $10,000 a month. While there is no easy way to say that, its just as hard , I think,  to grasp that amount. I need help. Sratch that. My dad needs help. Normally he has a " I'll do it myself " attititude,  but for 1 months stay for 10 grand can't be I'll do it myself attititude when you don't even know why you are there. Please, share, donate,  pray and keep us in your thoughts during this holiday season.

I just had the best conversation with my dad. The best . He was sooo interested in the wedding. I told him we were 15 days away and he was like "so, are you ready ?" Then he laughed at me because I hesitated. Then someone came in his room and gave him some cereal , he was grateful, said thank you, then told me she was good looking ! " Hilarious, and his normal self shining through. Love him. And love the great vibes I've been feeling about a good things to come. Thank you . We are working very hard to get my dad in more of an independent living situation so every penny counts right now. Please continue to share! !

The updates havn't been as frequent as they should. My dad is well. Stable really. His memory is probably where it will stay . He forgets what family members have passed , but if you ask about details, he can give them all to you about that person. We think his short term memory goes back 10 years. I am grateful he knows and loves everyone in our family. Back in October , we couldn't even have a conversation because it was scrambled words or we were strangers. He saw past it. He worked his butt off and now in 20 something days he will walk me down an isle. I get to see all the hard work my mom has done for me and my dad gets to show off his hard work . Gratifying knowing your parents are the hardest of workers. My dad has a goal. He wants to try to lead a more independent life. Realistically , he will always need assistance. It's great to hear dad want it though . The want and drive my dad shows is amazing . It's fortunate and unfortunate he doesn't know what happened . It's kinda like the movie 51st Dates, but he does have a sense of time. We are trying to show the same drive.. he makes it look easy. But it's hard . We want our dad to succeed. He will too. Help him get to a place that doesn't have a nursing home feel but with assistance ! It's all out of pocket from here. Keep sending positive vibes however you do. It's working.

Dad had a procedure today . It told us 2 things. 1. His past bypass has reached its working limit . And because sedation is risky we just need to treat with meds.
2. Call the ones you love to express that you do love them.

Ok, 3. The drs WILL be wrong. It's just the Plakas way.
