Volunteering in Fiji

Donation protected
When people think of Fiji they think of the beautiful 333 islands it contains and not about the life of fijian people or the lack of access to clean water or an education. Some families are living on just one dollar a day, and as you may not be aware  over 75% of fijian people live below the poverty line and just 5% of children actually gain a basic education.

In June 2018 I have been given the opportunity to make a difference in a village in Fiji. I will be travelling out to fiji with a company called Think Pacific who work to provide increased opportunities for children. They replenish school resources, provide teacher training, help to rebuild essential facilities and through my time and effort as a volunteer, increase standards in education, extracurricular activities and sports, which in partnership with the Fijian Government are achieving groundbreaking results.

At university I study Special Educational Needs and Disability. My aim is to become a primary teacher in a SEN school. This trip will give me the global experience I need in my course to show evidence of how different and advanced we are to have so much technology and teacher training in place for such schools. My course will also help me provide extra help to children who are suffering in a mainstreem setting out in Fiji.

To achieve my goal of volunteering and supporting the project in Fiji, I am aiming to raise £1295 towards the charity. Over one third of this funding will be used directly to support the children in Fiji by supplying resources, helping to re-build and equip schools and supporting long term educational initiatives for children and local teachers.
