Two weeks ago, our beloved, fun and fierce, smart and adventurous, crazy, badass super hero, Sheilagh, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Those who know her know that nothing in her life is ever straightforward. Her cancer is no exception! Sheilagh’s cancer treatment is complicated by her Crohn’s disease. After extensive research, medical consultations and careful consideration of her unique personal circumstances, she has decided to begin with a complementary, personalized and non-toxic program known as immunotherapy at the Immuno-Oncology Center. We hope that this complex treatment will help to move her cancer in a healing direction so that if chemotherapy is required, her body will be much stronger and equipped with the resources it needs to face it head on. With her positive attitude, the spirit of a fighter and sheer “Sheilagh determination,” we are sure this treatment will be beneficial in so many ways.
As with anything unconventional in western medicine, it is not covered by health insurance. The treatment costs alone are estimated at CDN $81,000 (USD $62,000). Laboratory services, unplanned works, Nutraceuticals, accommodation and transportation are not included in these costs. Sheilagh’s devoted mom, Maureen, will be accompanying her for the duration of her treatments.
As you know, Sheilagh is someone who consistently demonstrates extraordinary selflessness, generosity and has a natural instinct to help ANYONE in need, whether they are her loved ones or strangers. This is evident both in her everyday life and in her choice to work in numerous humanitarian missions around the world over the past 20 years, often at great personal risk and despite her own health challenges. We know that she’s uncomfortable with taking since she prefers to be giving. Now it’s our turn to lend a helping hand and provide her with love and support in her journey to a full recovery! Think of this as a substitution for that cup of coffee or dinner you’d like to buy her. Any support that you can offer will ease the financial burden of this endeavour and will be gratefully received.
