My brother Manuel Mendez, age 30, a father of 3 wonderful kids, a person who is there when you need him, someone who picks you up when you fall, a person who sticks up for you when no else will, the life of the party who brings joy to so many, my best friend, my shoulder to lean on, my everything. Why him?
My brother was diagnosed 4 months ago with Congestive Heart Failure. He received surgery 2 weeks ago and was issued a pacemaker. Unfortunately, since his condition has deteriorated, the pacemaker is not properly working and his heart is only working 10%. Today 01/14/19 the cardiologists informed him that he is in immediate need of a heart transplant but they can’t proceed unless he has health insurance. Since this was diagnosed as a birth defect, it is difficult to pair him with an insurance that will cover the cost.
The average cost is as shown below:
$47,200 - treatment for the 30 days before the transplant
$634,300 - admission to the hospital for the transplant
$67,700 - treatment by the doctors during the transplant
$30,000 - immunosuppressant medications
$80,000 - procuring the heart
$137,800 - treatment for the first 180 days after the transplant

Mi hermano fue diagnosticado hace 4 meses con insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva. Recibió una cirugía hace 2 semanas y le pusieron un marcapasos. Desafortunadamente, dado que su condición se ha deteriorado, el marcapasos no está funcionando correctamente y su corazón solo está funcionando al 10%. Hoy 14 de Enero los cardiólogos le informaron que necesita un trasplante de corazón de manera inmediata, pero no pueden proceder al menos que tenga un seguro de salud. Dado que esto se diagnosticó como un defecto de nacimiento, es difícil asociarlo con un seguro que cubra el costo.
