Roland's Transplant Benefit

Dear Friends and Family,
It has been two years since Roland was able to come home from the hospital. Two wonderful years full of challenges for sure, but also great joy. In turth the journey would have been more difficult had it not been for the emotional and finacial support we have received from others. Thank you so much!
Over the last six months Roland's lung condition has deteriorated. During this period we have had to increase his oxygen level to accommodate his needs, however this is neither sustainable or safe for him. Roland's doctors in St. Louis have advised us that now is an appropriate time for him to be listed for a lung transplant. There is a fine line between being sick enough to need a transplant and healthy enough for the surgery to be successful, Roland is at this juncture. In order to be eligible for a transplant Roland and Cathy will have to relocate to St. Louis to be in close proximity to the hospital. The average wait time for this procedure is 3-6+ months, followed by 3 months of recovery and follow up on site. Therefore Cathy and Roland will be leaving for St. Louis in May and will remain there for up to a year in duration. Cathy will be taking a leave of absence from her job to be with Roland. Unfortunately we will not have nursing support as that is provided by Medicaid and we will be out of state. Brock will be there for the summer and some weekends and our parents will take turns staying with us to assist with the variables related to Roland's condition.
Our major expenses during this period will be relative to establishing a second residence, transportation, and any medical expenses not covered.
This is a difficult time for our family, but we are up for the challenge! Though lung transplants come with complications and unknowns, we all have confidence that this procedure is the best option for Roland. If you are interested in supporting these efforts we would greatly appreciate it.
