Save the Shelter!

Donation protected
RoofOver is the only transitional housing shelter that serves working families of all types in Easton, PA.  At RoofOver, we work to help homeless families  find the stability, resources, and support they need to better their situation. These families come to us for a variety of reasons, but they are all looking for the same thing- a better life.

RoofOver is the ONLY shelter in Easton, and one of only two in the entire Lehigh Valley area, that can accept an entire family. Most shelters will either accept women and children or adult men and women.

This campaign aims to raise funds to save our shelter building. We are in need of extensive repairs in order to continue operating as a safe, secure home for families. Some of those repairs include: electrical upgrades so that our apartments can meet the electric demands of families, plumbing repairs, installation of new gutters to stop the flow of water into the walls, safety testing and  repair of our fire escape, and covers for our heating baseboards.

Without these repairs, we may not be able to meet city code. We may not be able to continue providing services to families. Without these repairs, there is a very real possibility that we may have to close our doors.

We would like to continue to help local families grow, learn, and succeed. We would like to continue to provide a home to families in crisis and then help them navigate through that crisis. We would like to continue to make families stronger, which makes our community stronger.

And we WILL continue- for as long as we can.

We are asking the public to help us now, as we have helped so many others. Your donation can help us through this period of struggle so that we can come out on the other side stronger and smarter and better prepared- just like the families we serve.

FAQ's

What is transitional housing? Transitional housing simply means that we help families "transition" from homelessness to stability. Of course, transitions take time, so RoofOver has an average stay of one year. This allows families- especially those with young children- the time they need to not only stabilize, but save up for their next step.

Where do the families come from? Each family comes to us from Northampton County. When you help RoofOver, you are quite literally helping your own community.

What has brought on the need for so many repairs? Our building is over 100 years old and much of the disrepair is just a result of aging. However, recent budget cuts have have added to the strain. We have been extremely fortunate in that two of our current residents have a wide variety of handyman skills and have been able to help with most minor interior repairs. What's left are major repairs that require a professional.

Is there an incentive to help?  Of course! To start, you'll get some good karma. Who doesn't need some of that? In addition, your financial donation to RoofOver is tax-deductible. Companies that chooses to do work for us at a free or reduced rate can also deduct their time and resources. Finally, RoofOver will recognize all donors on The Neighborhood Center's website and Facebook page. And we will happily recognize our top donors by posting signs on our fence facing Rt. 22 during and after the repairs.

I'm a plumber/electrician/contractor. Can I help?  YES! You absolutely can! If you are licensed (as necessary) and insured, we would gladly accept your help.

What happens if you can't raise the whole amount? Or exceed your goal? We will use any money raised to make repairs to the building. If we do not earn enough to make all of the repairs, we will start with the most critical and work from there. If enough repairs are made to keep the building safe, we can work on more in the future. If we manage to exceed our goal, additional funds would be used to make the necessary upgrades to the building. Things like new flooring, fresh paint, upgraded lighting... you know, the luxuries!

Where can I get more information on RoofOver? RoofOver is a program of The Neighborhood Center. You can always learn more- and get updates- by visiting our website.

I'm not comfortable using my credit card online. Can I still help? Absolutely! You can simply mail a check to The Neighborhood Center at 902 Philadelphia Rd, Easton, PA 18042. Be sure to mark "RoofOver" on the memo line so that we can add it to this campaign!
