Volunteer work in Zambia

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Aine McClean and I am a final year medical student at University College Dublin. This August myself and 3 other students will be travelling to Livingstone Hospital in Zambia to volunteer for one month.

The funds that we are aiming to raise through this page and other fundraising events will go directly to buying urgently needed medical equipment and medications.

While in Zambia we will travel to Lusaka to a medical supply centre with a senior doctor and pharmacist to purchase the much needed supplies for the hospital. We will do this on our third week there as by then we will know what is most needed. Even basic supplies that we take for granted such as antibiotics, antiseptic wipes, gloves and needles can be life saving.

As well as providing supplies we will also relieve the burden on the staff in the hospital. Livingstone hospital has 600 beds and only 6 doctors.

We will support the doctors and nurses by examining and treating patients. Zambia is also in the middle of an HIV/AIDS epidemic with 1.2 million people living in Zambia with HIV. We will help to run clinics to treat these patients and provide information and education.

Thank you for visiting my page, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like any more information!
