Volunteer firefighter medical bill assistance

Robert Allen “Bob” Stanley was born, at the end of The Great Depression and the start of World War II, in Walla Walla, Washington in March of 1939. His family moved to Portland, Oregon then raising him in El Cajon, California where he grew up. He was an auto mechanic by trade and later became a reserve officer for 5 ½ years in his community of El Cajon.

Bob’s first marriage of 28 years lead him to become a father to a boy and a girl, then he became a foster parent of a step-daughter for 18 years, and he has numerous grand and great grandchildren who still reside in California. Bob eventually moved back to Portland, Oregon for a short time before once more relocating to Sandia, Texas where Bob has become a crucial part of the Sandia VFD as a tanker operator. Presently Bob’s only contact with his family through the years has been through the internet and by phone. He has not had the opportunity to visit due his financial constraints and his current medical issues.

Bob has been fighting multi melanoma cancer effecting his plasma cells, leaving him weak from a lack of energy, loss of appetite, short of breath, and prone to fevers. Although he was in remission for almost two years in his battle with multi melanoma cancer, it is not a curable disease but can be controlled with continued medical care, treatments, and medications. Currently not only is he dealing with multi melanoma cancer, he is also dealing with Stage III chronic kidney failure and is receiving chemo treatments.

With the mounting medical bills and the cost of medications increasing it’s become more of a financial strain to even put food on his table, let alone pay for his treatments. To make ends meet Bob has been going monthly to a local food pantry waking early in the morning at approximately 4:00 am. He often waits in a line sometimes in not the best of health, to be able to put food in his fridge.

We are hoping that between family, friends, and the generosity of others that we can raise funds for a unique individual who has always been there, as a volunteer, to serve and protect others. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide for Bob in meeting his medical bill obligations and providing for the bare necessities in life.
