Volcanic Disaster: Rebuilding Guate

The devastating volcanic eruption in Guatemala is not over. Our fellow Guatemalans have been facing this catastrophe since yesterday and will be facing it long into the future. Volcán de Fuego erupted on Sunday June 3, spewing ash into the atmosphere and erupting lava flows down its flanks into the surrounding communities. Over 3,000 people have been evacuated, hundreds are injured and at least 38 souls have perished. We are praying for our countrymen. We are planning to host a fundraiser as soon as we can. We will be accepting any donations to bring help, rebuild homes and replant the land of the affected people. Spread the word. Today is Guatemala, tomorrow might be us. Never loose faith.  My name is Gustavo Lopez from Guatemal, raised in California, now residing in Virginia,US and owner of Xquizit Specilty Coffee Roasters and Brewers. My wife is a volcanologists and a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer that worked in the volcanoes in Guatemala.The donations received will be spent in rebuilding 20 houses with a small parcel of land that will be planted with different crops since most of the afected areas in Zacatepeques and Escuintla were homes with small coffee gardens that belonged to small families that make their living by selling the coffee and other crops they plant. Each house will be built with a wood frame, corrugated sheet metal walls and corrugated sheet metal roofs and it will include replanting a parcel of their land. Again this is thinking for a long time solution because everyone donates food, water, medicine etc in the beginning but we have seen in Volcan Pacaya that after a few months the help is gone and people are still living in the destroyed houses and they have no way to make a living without any crops in their land.  I would be traveling to Guatemala and helping build the homes and taking pictures to ensure transparency.
