Kumamoto Earthquake

$7,025 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 84 people in 30 months
On Thursday, April 14 and Saturday, April 16, the city of Kumamoto, Japan was rocked with two massive earthquakes and many aftershocks. The epicenter was in the small town of Mashiki.
I lived in Mashiki when I first arrived in Japan 15 years ago. My host mother is a wonderful woman, She opened her heart and her doors for me and anyone who ever came to visit.
Her house was destroyed by the quakes. She has a little karaoke bar on the first floor that was also destroyed. I'm trying to help her get some livelihood back.
Big relief campaigns will use half your donation for administrative costs. This is a chance to donate directly. I will keep you posted every step of the recovery way.
Please keep the people of Mashiki and Kumamoto in your thoughts.

Extra info to appease the gofundme staff and remove hold.

Happy Mama and Papa are settled into their pre fabricated housing. They live literally side by side 100s of families from the shelter. The housing is cramped but much more comfortable than living in a gymnasium. Happy Papa has been in the hospital the past month but he is getting better. They want me to thank everyone for their support. I presented them with the over 7,000 dollars raised from the campaign and the fundraiser. Mama was in tears when she received the money. I can't tell you how much this all means to her.
Money is usually given in special envelopes in Japan. Thanks again everyone!

The charity concert was a big success. We raised money for Happy Mama, listened to some great music, and had a good time. Happy Mama and Papa moved into their temporary housing Sunday, July 24th. We have raised over 7000 dollars for them. I will be visiting soon. I'll update with some pictures. The fundraising is still on. Please share and let's get that last 30 percent!

Hello all! Good news. Happy Mama and Papa were selected for temporary housing. They will be able to leave the evacuation center for a pre-fabricated temporary home in the middle to end of next month. It's only live able for two years, but it will give them time to figure out what to do next. They lost all their furniture and clothing in the quakes so this fund will help them tremendously. Still 32% to go. Keep sharing. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again.
