Casino Night Benefitting Compassionate Care Fund

Donation protected
Each year Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine’s Alpha Psi chapter, Omega Tau Sigma chapter, and the Student American Veterinary Medical Association host a charitable “Casino Night” event, VMCVM’s largest philanthropic event of the year. All proceeds raised by the event are given directly to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s Compassionate Care Fund, which allows hospital clients who could otherwise not afford necessary veterinary care for their pets to give them the treatment they need.

The Compassionate Care Fund is dependent upon philanthropists throughout the country and was founded to help clients of the VTH that are experiencing financial hardship. Those determined to be eligible are awarded a specified amount from the fund to offset a large part of their overall medical expenses for their animal(s) being treated.

This fund benefits not just those who receive its financial support, but also the students of the VTH. Since its inception, the fund has led to a noticeable increase in the number of opportunities for students that otherwise would have either forgone recommended treatment or transferred to another facility due to financial constraints.

The Compassionate Care Fund not only directly benefits the students and the animals in their care, but also the community at large by strengthening the human-animal bond we all strive to preserve between the pet owner and the animal, and between the clinicians, students, and the patient.

The Casino Night Event is VMCVM’s largest philanthropic event of the year, and it is one of the only philanthropic events held and organized by our students to financially aid pet owners in surrounding community. Casino Night not only encourages student participation, but sets a precedent for veterinary compassion and interest in community service. With this aim, the evening is organized for veterinary students, faculty, and guests to participate in an event that not only encourages well-being and a break from the classroom or clinic, but also raises money for a great cause for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the community as a whole.
