Safe Jumpers for the MSU Water Ski

Donation protected
The Michigan State Water ski team has been around since 1982 and have placed 9th at division one nationals the last two years. After years of competing, the team jump skis have completed their last year with the team. They have become unsafe and a hazard for future jumpers to ski on.

Unfortunately, because the Water ski team is not an official club sport at MSU, we receive zero funding from the university. As a result, we (college students) try our best to afford this unique passion that we share. After paying for a boat, registration, insurance, marina slip, gas, and tournaments, it has become unreasonable to ask our teammates/fellow college classmates to ‘pitch in’ for new/safe jump skis.

With Jump being the most dangerous event, where people propel themselves off a 5 ft. ramp at a maximum speed of 32 mph, safety is a necessity for individual and team success. Due to the jump skis unsafe condition, team members will not be able to practice or compete in the jump event until we have new jump skis. Our goal is to raise $1500 by July 31, 2015.  This money is to ensure that we have jump skis by the fall season, so that we will be able to compete in the jump event and hopefully earn our third consecutive invitation to Collegiate Nationals.

The problem with our green jump skis is that the edges are so ripped up that they have been causing more and more injuries to our skiers.  Due to this, our team has decided that they are unsafe and that we should prevent injures to our skiers and no longer use these skis.  As for the black skis, this past fall a team member ripped the binding off of the ski while going off the ramp.  Though we have tried to fill in the many drill holes that have been made over the years on the skis, these skis have proven they are no longer safe for large male skis or for more advanced skiers who are cutting towards the ramp to use.

We are reaching out to family, friends, alumni, and everyone to help the MSU Water ski team purchase a safe pair of jump skis, so our current and future skiers may enhance their skills as they practice and compete. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. We thank you for your support and generosity!

Help us fly into this fall with safe, new jump skis!
