Hi everyone,
We are here to ask for your help with paying for the open heart surgery of our 7 month old son.
His name is Vlad and he was born with a collection of heart defects known as Tetrallogy of Fallot. In a few words, his two ventricles are not separated, which causes the unoxygenated blood to flow back into his body; his pumonary vein is narrow and doesn't allow efficient blood flow to the lungs; his aorta is not positioned properly and his right ventricule is thickened. This causes, amongst others, bad weight gain, bad oxygenation and cyanosis (blue skin and extremities) and overall weakness. More information about the condition can be found here.
His only chance to lead a normal life is to have an open heart surgery to fix the issues there, followed by a lifetime of medical observation to make sure the defects do not reappear.
We are from Romania and we have 2 hospitals here that perform such surgeries on a regular basis, but they are overwhelmed and understaffed so they will not be able to help in time - the recommended age for his surgery is after 6-8 months, but not after 12 months, so we have a tight window, and we can't find a slot for surgery in any of these hospitals in the time we need.
This is why we need your help. We need to go to a clinic in Germany that has extensive expertise in this area, having dealt with hundreds of thousands of cases (this clinic) and offers Vlad the best chance in both the surgery and the recovery. The team is led by an oustanding doctor that knows about our case and promised that will do his best to accomodate the date of the surgery within the window of time available.
We do not have an exact cost of the surgery yet, even the clinic will only provid estimates, as each case is unique and might incur additional costs. Best estimates right now are that the cost will sit around 50.000 Euro, we are asking for 35.000 Euro to add to our savings and complete the sum.
Every and any donation helps, no matter the amount and we will send each and everyone a small token of our appreciation. A share to your friends to spread the word would also go a long way in helping Vlad.
You might question why the campaign is in UK Pounds - this is because our uncle, Ion Porneala, who lives in UK, will collect the donations in our behalf. I hope this doesn't cause any concern for anybody, but if it does please feel free to message me directly and we can work things out.
