Viv Reports: Flat Earth Conference
For two days this November educators, writers, "scientists", and nobodies - all of whom fervently devote their lives to proving that the earth is indeed flat - will gather in a North Carolina ballroom.
I want to be in that ballroom.
This is the first year the Flat Earth International Conference is being held, and my mission is to be a fly on the wall for you - attending and reporting on the inner-workings, motivations and beliefs of this unusual movement.
From talks titled "Flat Earth & The Bible" and "NASA & Other Space Lies" to the "Exposing Scientism" movie premier, this event is sure to have something to intrigue and outrage just about anyone.
The money raised in this campaign will go directly towards flights ($1400), transport ($100-$300), & cheapo accomodation ($200) while the convention is on.
I'll also be conducting interviews with both speakers and attendees.
I want to stress that this isn't a free holiday! I'll spend hours and hours in research, writing and editing. All of this will culminate in a series of 5 entertaining, thought provoking and completely unrestrained gonzo stories that delve into this subculture and its participants.
This is the first time that I have tried crowd funding my investigative journalism and I'm nervous and excited to see how it goes.
I'll be eternally grateful to anyone who chips in, and am also open to covering other stories in the NC area while I am there.
Support independent journalism.
Converge with the unconventional.
Send me to North Carolina.

For every $1 you donate, you'll get one word towards a question.
So, keep it succinct if you're broke or write an essay if you've got the cash to spare!
Post your questions in the comments :) <3
