Learning English Through Video

Video production is a motivating method for authentic English language learning. I have taught a course in video analysis and production to English Language Learners in high school for the past 12 years. Using video technology enables students to create meaningful projects while improving their English skills in all four areas - listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Our problem is that technology moves fast, and our equipment is far out-dated. With this Go Fund Me money, we will be able to update our editing equipment so that we can produce high-quality video products which can be shared far and wide. The power to create video provides a voice to these students who are normally overlooked and unheard. These immigrant students have powerful personal stories and opinions which can be difficult to communicate with limited English skills. Producing video not only provides a means of integrating visual components to enhance communication, but with instruction, also provides a way to develop key skills in both language and technology which will help these students in their future. Students who have completed this course continue to tell me how much they learned, and how it has helped them in their lives.
As the school year is just starting, it would be helpful to have the funds for new equipment as soon as possible. Our first contest deadline is in early December, so being able to purchase the equipment by mid-October would be ideal.
Since this campaign is part of a special Go Fund Me program for teachers (#GFMtoSchool), if we raise at least $250 from at least 5 unique online donors, Go Fund Me will add $50! And for an exciting and ambitious target, the top campaign that raises the most money will be given a $10k donation from Go Fund Me.
My students and I will be grateful for your support, and I would be happy to share our future video products with anyone who is interested. Teaching this course has shown me the power of video in learning, and I am dedicated to seeing this continue.
