Lia Page's Battle

Donation protected
A little over a year ago, A fellow coworker, turned dear friend of mine, rushed out of work and to the hospital. Her boyfriend had been in a serious motorcycle accident. Thankfully he would be ok but lost use of his arm and would undergo many hospital stays and surgeries because of the wreck. My sweet and selfless friend Lindsay worked hard to maintain her job and care for him every moment she could. While Lucas was still in the hospital, they would find out that she was expecting their first child. Excited but scared, Lindsay did all she could to care for herself, her boyfriend, and the daughter they would come to love so very much, Lia. Lia is the sweetest crazy haired little soul and is just so easy to fall in love with. Lucas and Lindsay were devastated to find out that little Lia needed lots of testing when her newborn screening came back abnormal. Here is what Lindsay shared with family...
"Until recently they haven't been able to tell us why but we have been going to Hasbro for more lab work to decipher why her tests were abnormal. Recently, they were able to tell us the reason for the abnormality was because Lia has Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, or SCID. There are many different forms of this disease, Lia's being a deficiency in her RAG1 cell. What this means for Lia is that she is not producing the white blood cells vital for fighting infections, viruses, and illness. She is NOT sick, however she is taking preventative antibiotics to help her from becoming sick. On the upside, her doctors are surprised by how healthy, happy, and chubby she is. The next step would be to find a bone marrow match and perform a bone marrow transplant for Lia. She's a rare case compared to what they normally see so for the time being we are keeping Lia home with us and limiting who she comes in contact with because an illness could be fatal for her. She is receiving a monthly infusion of immunoglobulin to give her some white blood cells."
Since Lindsay gave everyone this information, there have been some updates. Lia will definitely need to undergo the transplant as well as chemo and will be infertile for the rest of her life, along with the other side effects of the chemo. Lindsay was already the only contributor and is now unable to work more than once a week which will soon change to not working at all. Her and Lia will be residing in Boston while Lia is being treated and there are so many unknowns for their families future. I am hoping to raise funds for this young, sweet family to help them through this unexpected and uncharted journey that is sure to bring financial hardships. I know that Lindsay is far too humble to ever ask for this kind of help on her own, and I cannot think of more deserving recipients.
