Water Filters for Puerto Rico

It’s been 3 weeks since Hurricane María ravaged the Island of Puerto Rico, and we still have NO NATURAL SOURCE OF CLEAN WATER in Puerto Rico. Only 50% of the Island has access to tap water, but it has been reported that even our water supply systems are compromised by life-threatening bacterias. People are getting desperate and putting their lives at risk each time the drink from whichever source they can find. Bacterial infection outbreaks (i.e. Leptospirosis) are an imminent threat. To make matters worse, hospitals that survived the hurricane are over-crowded, semi-operational and in dire conditions due to the lack of power and resources. Right now, you can’t afford to get sick.
Instead of ranting against aid-distribution inadequacies, bureaucratic imbecilities or any other factor impeding the proper delivery of resources that have been sent to us, I have decided to PERSONALLY buy LIFESTRAW water filters in NYC, fly them to Puerto Rico, and PERSONALLY deliver them next Tuesday (October 17) to families in more rural areas, families that have harder access to bottled water and have the constant temptation to drink from nearby, contaminated riverine sources.

LIFESTRAW water filters have been previously used in disaster zones (2010 Haiti Earthquake, 2016 Ecuador Earthquake) and can filter up to 1,000 Liters of contaminated water, effectively removing 99.9999% waterborne PARASITES and BACTERIA, including those posing a threat to the well-being of our people.
