Veterinary care in Mexico

****UPDATE*** We reached our goal! Thank you all so much! We still hope to raise funds, as everything beyond our expenses will be donated to an impoverished cat sanctuary there. A fellow veterinarian and I are traveling to San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City during the week of April 7th to help shelter and street animals in these areas. We will be doing both physical examinations and surgeries on dogs and cats, as well as any other animals who might need our help. These animals have very little to absent access to veterinary care, and we will be doing everything we can for them. As an eye vet, I will be mostly doing eye exams and surgeries, whereas my colleague will be doing many spay/neuters of homeless animals. I will also be speaking to local veterinarians there about how to diagnose and treat ocular disease, as this is not typically addressed thoroughly in veterinary school. This vet trip will be challenging on many fronts, but we are devoted to doing everything we possibly can to help the local animals. We estimate needing about 5K USD to cover the various expenses, including travel and medical supplies. If any money is collected during examinations, it will all be donated to local animal rescues, namely a cat shelter there in dire need. My colleague and I will not be making any profit from this trip whatsoever, and nearly every moment of our time there will be dedicated to helping animals. Everything is donated, both our time and funds. If all trip expenses are paid for, then additional funds will be directed towards obtaining a tonometer (intraocular pressure instrument) for the local veterinarian of San Miguel de Allende, that she will then use to appropriately diagnose and treat animals for eye conditions. This is the first time I have ever tried to raise funds. If you have been following me on Instagram, you hopefully know how important donating vet care to animals is to me. I care about all animals; they all matter. After traveling extensively to farm sanctuaries in the US and Canada and donating surgeries and examinations to animal rescues at no cost, I admit to needing some help to continue providing this care. I am not good with asking for help. But these trips are simply too expensive to cover all by myself anymore, although I will continue to do the very best that I can even if we can't raise money.  Thank you so much for your consideration and kindness.
