Veteran's Medical Needs

Donation protected
Sean is a 37-year-old veteran of the Marine Corps. and served in Iraq.  He has degrees in the culinary arts as well as HVAC.   Sean is very smart, resourceful and witty.  Before his accident in July 2018 he was a vibrant, physically active young man who had his own apartment, loved to play frisbee golf with friends, go to the library and ride his bike.   All that changed July 31, 2018.

Sean suffered severe brain trauma (TBI) from a horrible fall which has left him unable to care for himself any longer.  He has many skills he will need to regain which including walking, talking and caring for himself.  He will never be able to live on his own again, but our hope is for him to regain some independence.  Sean has been in hospitals, rehab centers, institutions and nursing homes since his accident.  He has received excellent medical care from the VA and the VA continues to help support Sean and care for him.

Currently Sean is residing in a nursing home and I must spend much of my week visiting him, cooking for him, helping to feed him, bathe him and care for him.   I also spend hours a day on the phone with lawyers, doctors and the nursing home ensuring his care.   Among many other medical issues Sean suffers from impulsive outbursts which can sometimes become aggressive and difficult to handle.   Some of this is due to his brain injury and some of it is because he cannot communicate.   Sean suffers from aphasia which affects his ability to communicate with others.  He also suffers from Dysphagia which causes him difficulty in swallowing.  As a result, he can only eat soft or puree foods.

Sean must use all his VA medical benefits, Medicaid and Social Security Disability to cover the cost of the nursing home and after that he has no money left.   Medicaid and the VA will only cover immediate medical expenses and will not cover extras.   Any personal needs such as extra food due to his special diet, clothes, personal hygiene products or legal fees are not covered.  Family must pay for them out of pocket which has been a huge financial strain.

Sean is in desperate need of money to cover numerous living expenses that family cannot cover.   Sean needs money for things like clothes, food, personal care items and the occasional outing for recreation.

Sean served his country and in turn lost his mental and physical health doing so.  He will require lifelong care which will be very expensive and time consuming.  He gave everything he had for us, please help us raise money for a veteran who has served for us.  He fought for our freedom it's our turn to fight for him.  Thank you.
