Veteran In Need of Heart Surgery

Donation protected
Our godson Shawn Moore has worked most of his adult life in public service. He is an Iraq veteran and was injured and treated at West Point. Once given an honorable discharge he returned home and entered the police academy in South Carolina. After a period of time he transitioned into narcotics. After deciding to move back to his home state of Georgia (keeping a promise he always made to his mom) he had to complete a 2nd police academy in order to continue with his passion and dedication for public service. He was injured while on a domestic call and eventually searched his heart about whether to continue in his current career and what was best for his family. He is now following in his father's footsteps and has been working to take over his father's successful 26 year business one day with his sister. His wife Debra is currently a firefighter.

The beginning of January 2017 Shawn started having serious health problems. The first signs were a large knot in his neck, drooping on the left side of his face, speech difficulties and his cognitive abilities were greatly impaired. He also was having numerous seizures. He was taken to the VA hospital in Atlanta. During that time it was determined that he had an infection and swelling in his brain. After many days of multiple tests and drugs they discharged him saying that his meds should control his seizures and the infection was gone. Many of his family believed that once home he still was very unwell. Two weeks after being home Shawn fell into the footboard of his bed and injured his back. He lost 30 lbs and could barely walk, keep his balance and had constant body tremors. The VA sent him medicine through the mail from doctors he had never even seen with no guidance. He returned to the VA with no answers or explanation as to why his chest hurt and why he was still experiencing so many issues. The doctors only wanted to give him strong narcotics. Shawn recently developed a bad cough, severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. His wife Debra took him to the closest hospital. (Not the VA) There it was discovered that Shawn had a large mass on the aorta of his heart. Due to the area that the mass is at they are unable to perform a needle biopsy. He will have open heart surgery on March 13th, 2017 to remove and biopsy it. This condition went undiagnosed by the VA.

Due to the negligence of the VA regarding his care Shawn is forced to go outside the VA health system and incure debt to have this operation. His family and close friends and all those who know and love him believe that he deserves the best chance to regain his health for himself, his wife Debra and his three beautiful little girls. He has given so much to so many.

This fund is to help Shawn with medical bills and to financially assist his wife Debra who is working all she can to provide for their family on her own as a fire fighter. I know they appreciate any and all help or prayers.
