Veteran Missing Leg Needs Help

OUR HEROES DREAMS BUILDING BATHROOM FOR VETERAN MISSING LEG

Wheelchair Bound Vietnam Veteran fights for Specially Adapted Housing Grant From VA for Nearly 4 Years. 

 

Army Veteran Ken Boyd, who is completely wheelchair bound, has been struggling to obtain a VA Home Adaptation Grant to modify his home.  After 4 years and repeated attempts, the Regional VA office continues to stall the grant and eventually resind the approval letter, leaving veteran to fend for himself.

 

CEO and Founder of Our Heroes' Dreams, Justin Bond, along with the Veterans Community Response Corps Commander, Darren Clayton, have obtained permits from the City of Hanford to install a handicap accessible bathroom on the residence.  Our Heroes Dreams is seeking monetary, materials, and workforce donations to offset the cost. The estimated cost of the renovation is $74,000.00.

Boyd, on his last week in Vietnam lost his leg at 18 years old when his platoon came under attack. He is the only surviving member of that platoon. Due to complications and mobility restrictions, he has not been able to access his homes’ bathrooms for several years and is now facing amputation of his other leg due to bone infection and venous ulcers.

 

Post 9/11 and other Veterans throughout the community will be assisting in this project.

 

Groundbreaking of the project will be on May 19, 2017 at 10 am at the residence.
