Vet Bill for "Nibbles"

Hello Friends,

On Christmas Day, a Northside resident posted a photo of a black and white dog who was running near Kirby School and was cold and afraid. For nearly a week, many concerned Northsiders posted on both Nextdoor and Facebook about this sweet pup, but unfortunately although there were multiple sightings, she was too timid and fast to be caught. With temperatures down in the single digits, the community came together to get this sweet girl and bring her to safety. Multiple neighbors acted as steadfast detectives and were able to piece together clues about her daily activity and places where we might encounter her. For two nights she had been sleeping on a front porch glider, scratching it up to try to borrow down into the foam.

On New Years Day, with the help of a live trap borrowed from the Animal Welfare League in Batavia baited with delicious duck treats, I was able to get her after only a few hours! She was shivering and hungry, but approachable and very sweet. We took her to Grady's Vet in Finneytown where she slowly came out of the trap and allowed us to give her food, water, and check for a microchip. Sadly, she has no chip and no owners have come forward.

After a thorough assessment by the vet, she seems to be relatively healthy all things considered! She was in need of a good bath, has some round worms that we are treating, and was a bit skinny and dehydrated. Many people had voiced concerns about whether she might have a litter of puppies given her swollen nipples, but the vet reported that her milk supply is almost dried up at this point. We will take her out on leash today to see if she leads us to any clues about this, but do not expect that her puppies are outside at this point. She is about a year old.

My family has taken her in and will take good care of her while she convalesces. We would be so grateful for any donations you could make to her vet care. Our initial visit, including a round of heartworm treatment and round worm medication, was $250. We are also hoping to get her microchipped and spayed when she is healthy enough, and any funds we raise beyond the initial $250 will all go to her future care as we get her caught up on vaccines, etc.

Thank you so much for considering - even a small amount will help us cover this unexpected (but so, so worthwhile!) expense. And thanks to the lovely folks of Northside who unified and acted to give this story a happy ending!
