My niece, Isabella Beltrame, is going to turn 5 years old next Tuesday in the bed of a Pediatric ICU. This beautiful baby girl began acting strangely, experienced vision problems, vomiting, headaches and mood shifts around Thanksgiving of 2015. Her parents took her to the doctor once her symptoms obviously indicated a problem. At first, her parents and doctors were baffled - Bella has always been a healthy child full of energy and ready with a bright cheerful smile. Quickly they realized this was not just an ordinary childhood illness. They performed a CT scan and found a mass in Bella's brain that was the size of a lime.  She was flown to Children's hospital in Chicago and within twelve hours she was in surgery. The news from the surgeon was not good. Bella's tumor was malignant. The surgeon and pediatric oncologist determines that Bella has Aggressive Glioblastome Multiforme Grade 4 brain cancer. The oncologist has recommended one 6-week round of radiation for Bella. This treatment will require Bell and at least one parent to drive 50 miles each way to Children's Hospital for a session of treatment lasting from 9-5pm Monday thru Friday. During this time and after, Bella will be unable to go to Pre K or child care due to the need to keep Bella from exposure to normal childhood illnesses that may complicate or compromise her treatment.  While the prognosis is not optimistic, we will be standing with Bella as she fights for her life.
Bella's parents do have medical insurance for Bella, however, they are a young couple, only 24. They each work full time to raise their two beautiful girls, Bella and her infant sister Gianna, but they do not have extended paid time off to help them during their time of need.
I am hoping to raise $35,000 so that Bella's parents can insure she gets the care she needs without serious financial consequences. The stress of having a young one so gravely ill is tremendous. Having to watch Bella suffer through surgery and soon radiation therapy is agony - to add to that having to choose between being available for your child's cancer treatment and financial insolvency is inconcievable.
Please help if you can, it is so very needed.
