On the road to a new kidney for Vannie E. Ochoa

My Name is Vannie Ochoa, at the age of 21 I was diagnosed with lupus nephritis, an autoimmune disorder where a person’s white blood cells attack healthy kidney cells in the same way that they would attack a virus. In 2004 my kidneys started failing and my doctors prescribed a type of chemotherapy that caused severe fatigue, nausea, loss of hair, loss of appetite and permanent damage to my reproductive system. 
 
Despite the trying circumstances, by God’s grace I was able to complete Bible School, May 2008, while simultaneously undergoing treatment. On December 12, 2009, I was engaged and a few weeks later my kidneys stopped functioning completely. A build up of toxins and fluids caused me to go into uncontrollable convulsions, I was rushed to the hospital and fell into a coma. Due to the unpromising prognosis family was called to come say their last goodbyes. 
 
Though it took some time, I regained consciousness and function of my kidneys. The lupus went dormant and I no longer needed chemotherapy, my strength returned along with my hair. In 2011, through God’s grace, I got married and in 2014 we were blessed with the opportunity to adopt a beautiful little girl, while being involved in the ministry. Unfortunately, in February of 2016 the lupus returned and attacked my body full force.  
 
Since the lupus returned, I’ve been in and out of hospitals due to more episodes of convulsions and temporary blindness. My blood pressure was painfully uncontrollable. I’ve had numerous blood transfusions and surgeries. But through all of this I have seen God’s Power move in every situation. I currently undergo hemodialysis treatments three times a week and I’m very close to getting a kidney transplant.
