A VAN FOR SISTER STAN

We are St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Canaseraga, NY and are raising funds, with surrounding parishes, to purchase a 15 passenger van for an orphanage, Nazareth's Home for God's Children, in Ghana, Africa.  The orphanage is run by Sr. StanTerese Mario Mumuni , pictured below.

Sr. Stan runs an orphanage for unwanted children, commonly called, "spirit children" - those with birth defects, whose parents see them as a bad omen. These are children that may have a cleft palate, cerebral palsy, or could even be a twin, etc.  They are left to die on the side of the road and Sister rescues them, gives them a home and education, medical care and most importantly love.

During a visit to our parish last year with one of the children, Precious, seen in the picture below with Fr. John Cullen,

Sister Stan mentioned that they are in need of safe transportation for the children. Currently, they are riding around in the back of a pick up truck. She asked if we could get them a 15 passenger van for her to transport the children in.  Western New York Catholic did a wonderful article on our cause, see the link below

For about a year now we have been raising funds for the purchase of a 15 passenger van with low mileage and under 6 years old. Through the generosity of others, we have raised  $20,000  so far, yet are still in need of another $8,000 for purchase and shipping.

Due to the danger of their current situation, we are looking to raise the remainder of funds as soon as possible and get the van to her as quickly as we can.

We have been following the story of a number of children who have been saved and helped. One little boy's name is Xavier, sometimes spelled as Savior. He has cerebral palsy and was not able to walk due  to the tightening of tendons in his legs. He recently was sponsored to come to the US for surgery and through intense surgery and physical therapy and the love of generous people, he is now able to walk. You can follow his progress on their Facebook site,

Sister sent a Christmas card with Savior's progress on it!

Sister has a web page and is on Facebook, if you would like to learn more about the children and the wonderful work that is happening at the orphanage in Ghana.    sisterstanschildren.org

We, here at St. Mary's, are looking to raise the money to purchase the van locally and then ship it to Ghana, Africa. It was advised to do it this way as this is the most economical.

The children from the orphanage would be most grateful for your help! Please spread the message to your friends so that we can get this van to them ASAP.  Thank you for your time and may Our Loving Lord bless your generosity!
