Vanessa’s Fight For Life!

The summer of 2016 was a magical one for Vanessa, an elementary school teacher, and her husband Mike, a police officer. As they walked down the aisle in June, they were excited to start a new life together. Like any young couple, they dreamt of vacations, buying a house and maybe even starting a family. Their dreams seemed to be coming true when Vanessa and Mike announced they were expecting their first child, due in January 2018. However, things did not go as planned and Vanessa began to feel unwell during her pregnancy. She was sent to Mount Sinai Hospital where doctors found an excessive amount of fluid in her abdomen. Due to the severity of the situation, Vanessa was admitted for an emergency C-Section, ushering in the arrival of Baby Sophia at 36 weeks. With the C-Section, doctors also discovered that Vanessa had cancer. Amidst the challenges of adjusting to a new life as a mother, Vanessa underwent months of surgeries and procedures. January 2018 brought surgery to remove her left ovary, uterus and appendix. Doctors also found and removed a tumor in her small bowel. The new mom bravely began chemotherapy in March 2018, and in October 2018 was triumphantly announced cancer free when her CT scans showed that she was in the clear. Vanessa was able to celebrate the holidays recouping and spending time with her family and new baby girl. 

Unfortunately, 2019 has not brought the best of news for 31 year old Vanessa. Fluid was found around Vanessa’s heart and she has recently learned that cancer has reared its ugly head again; this time attacking her lungs and abdomen. Balancing her family, marriage and raising her young daughter, Vanessa is once again preparing to battle for her life. 

In June, Vanessa will be undergoing treatment at the Mayo clinic in the United States. This treatment will cost upwards of $400,000 US. We are asking for your help to raise some much-needed funds to get Vanessa the treatment and help she needs to fight this deadly disease.
