For The Family Of Lukasz Urban
For the wife and family of Polish truck driver Lukasz Urban, murdered in Germany 19th December 2016
My name is David Duncan and I have set up this gofundme page to raise some money to help the family of Lukasz Urban.
Although I did not know Lukasz, the story of his untimely departure shocked and disgusted me, and I cannot comprehend how his family feel at this awful time. So, as a fellow trucker, I decided ro reach out to the trucking community and beyond to help in some small way.
No amount of money will bring Lukasz back, but hopefully it will help his family do what ever they need to do.
I am working closely with gofundme support to make sure all funds reach Lukasz's family
One of Lukasz Urban’s colleagues said he was so dedicated to his work that he probably defended the vehicle ‘to the end’.
RIP Lukasz.....from The Truckers of The UK and beyond
"On 31.01.2017 I received a wire transfer for the amount of GBP 179650.41"
GoFundMe have sent a breakdown
Total Amount Raised - £190,160.00
Transactions - 11,242
GoFundMe (5%) - £9,508.00
Stripe (2.9% + 20p per transaction) - £7,763.04
Total Fees Assessed - £17,271.04
Available Total - £172,888.36
Please be aware that GoFundMe actually donated £10,000, so have worked for free on this campaign which, as I am sure you will agree, is quite commendable in this day and age.
Zuzanna has also promised to post her thanks to you all shortly.
Once again, I thank everybody for their support & generosity. I have met some amazing people because of this campaign, and have had experiences I never expected to have because of it.
I didn't start this for "fame" or recognition, it was merely empathy for a fellow truck driver and the situation in which he was taken from his family. It goes to show that whatever situation somebody may find themselves in, there is always somebody, somewhere who cares, and we have proved that together.
Love & peace to you all
We're sorry to report that one of your customers has disputed a £8,037.00 charge (made through your Gofundme account on December 23, 2016 (UTC)) with his or her credit card company. The cardholder is claiming that the payment was one that they did not authorize.
When one of your customers disputes a charge, we're notified by his or her bank -- which automatically refunds the transaction -- and pass on as much information to you as we receive. Since the payment has been returned to your customer, we'll deduct this amount and the dispute fee from your account within the next day.
The good news is that you still have a chance to resolve the dispute and receive the amount and fee back. You can respond to the dispute through your dashboard; your customer's bank then makes the ultimate decision about how to resolve the dispute. If the dispute is resolved in your favor by your customer's bank or credit card company, we'll return both the disputed amount and the fee.
Disputes are handled by your customer's bank, so we don't have any specific information about how this payment will be reviewed. However, we do want you to have the best chance possible in responding to these disputes. We've put together detailed documentation that can be very helpful in understanding and responding to disputes
There have been several problems in getting the monies raised to Zuzanna and her family, but I have had it confirmed tonight that the transfer has taken place and they should have it cleared in their bank in 1/2 days. Any further donations will go direct to Zuzanna within 7 days.
Once again, thank you to everybody who supported the campaign for your generosity, patience and understanding.
Just a few small things left to do, then The Family will have full access to the fund. I intend to send Zuzanna the log in details when she becomes solo beneficiary so she can choose how to end or keep the campaign alive and read all the messages and comments and the wonderful donations. Hopefully, it will also be a way of keeping Lukasz's memory alive.
3 questions I have been asked the most:
Why did you start this?
In all honesty, after reading the story like everybody else, and about Lukasz and the company he worked for and those he left behind, I felt such empathy, as though he was my workmate or a driver at a company I had worked for. I just did it without thinking. It literally took me just 10 minutes. I never thought for one second it would take off like it did.
What would you like them to do with the money now it is such a large amount?
That is entirely up to Zuzanna and her family. However they choose to use it is non of my business, I just hope it will help them.
What do I feel about Anis Amri?
I pity him. Nobody is born with the intention of killing innocent people, and like everybody else, I question how he come to chose the path he took, and what he thought he would gain?
I would like to thank again the 10,000+ people who chose to donate and continue to do so. All those who got behind the campaign and shared it 50,000+ times. The 1000's of people who commented, emailed, messaged me through Facebook for your continuing support. I read them all and reply to as many as I can, and I apologise if I havn't replied personally. It really is so humbling to read all your kind messages that you took time out to send. Special thanks to GoFundMe for your help, Nicole D you are a star! And of course your incredible donation of £10,000! The Polish Government for agreeing to waive the tax and allowing all your donations to go to the family. To Ariel & Judyta for your kindness. To Lukasz "Moustache", you really are a top guy and we are forever in your debt for your kindness and the unselfish way you looked after us in Poland. To Waldermar and Malgorzata P. for the translations, explanations and belief. To Agnieszka, you got me in the end! And of course my Biggles, at my side all the way, and the shining light when I thought the tunnel was collapsing around me. Even the negative commenters, doubters and haters.....you made me even more determined! Thanks!
Final words go to Zuzanna. This woman has been to hell and back, but the dignity, courage and strength she showed at her husbands funeral, matched that of his own heroic actions. The most unassuming, graceful lady I have ever met, and the little smile you gave me when we met at Lukasz's grave was worth a million times what I have done. Even though the language barriers stopped us, the smile said everything. Thank you x Your son Adam, also as brave as his father and an absolute credit to you both. Your warmth, kindness and genorosity to a total stranger at such a difficult time are things no amount of money can buy. Thank you, and Lukasz's parents for allowing us to pay our respects. It was an honour.
Lucasz Urban, trucker, father, husband, son, brother.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. May you rest in eternal peace Sir
I am happy to say that we have reached and surpassed the intended target and I want to thank everybody who has donated. I have made contact with Lucasz's company and hopefully all your kindness and generous donations will get to Lucasz's wife sooner rather than later. For every negative comment I have had 100's of positive ones and am overwhelmed by peoples kindness. I just hope Lucasz's family will, in THEIR time, read all the messages of support and disregard the negativity. Nobody is forcing anybody to contribute, and in my opinion, if you haven't contributed, then why try stop others from doing so? Thanks again and will update with news as and when it happens.
Ludzie siejacy tutaj zamet...dajcie sobie spokoj, bo nawet nie zadaliscie sobie trud by sprawdzic cokolwiek a oczerniac potraficie. Jestescie zalosni!I to kobiety na pierwszym miejscu! Moze troche wiary w ludzi? Wplaciliscie cos? Nie? To zmykac stad!
Dear Dave, thank you for this fundraiser. I am touched by your sympathy and laudable campaign. I am sorry for the often aggressive and unpleasant comments from my fellow Poles. One can be excused for being cautious but then many people don't bother to think or look things up before posting stuff on the internet. If you need a Polish-English translator when contacting the Polish haulage company, I will be happy to help. Merry Christmas to you and your family, in spite of all that's going on. Best wishes, Slav https://www.facebook.com/harpslav
Hello Dave Duncan I would like to thank you for this iniciative, you are a real ANGEL! P.S. Don't worry about suspicious comments; my polish people grew up in the hard communist times where polish traitors used to sell and wear out of use other polish people and right now there is no trust in anything and anyone. But don't take it personal and keep it up! Thank you once again ! Lot's of love and Merry Xmas ♥
Please see all updates Sorry for delay in answering your queries but I myself am a working truck driver who is just trying to help the family of a fellow truck driver. If you think it is a scam, please feel free to find another way to show your support to his family at this dreadful time.
Dave, thank you very much for coming up with this fantastic action. whilst of course money will not bring the lad back to his family, I can imagine it will take a little bit of pressure and stress in the coming difficult months. We need more people like you. We also need more respectful approach to each other - some of the comments below are shocking! I apologize profusely for all of my nationals who seem to have lost their mind and manners. Bless you and thank you!
Mr David Duncan, you are true gentleman and we polish people are thanking you for what you do and your support for deceased driver Lukasz. You have done 10x times more so far than our pathetic government so far, I read embassy wasn't helpful at the beginning. Now it looks like Lukas died as a hero, an autopsy confirmed he fought till the end and tried to grab the wheel then was shot. The government is changing tone now due to all coverage and spotlight on this. Thank you for this kind gesture, it shows despite all turmoil re BREXIT we have a great bond with British people and humanity is not yet dead. Your fundraiser and your name is now mentioned in Polish online portals, well done sir.
I cannot believe all the shit and abuse that Dave is getting. The worst ones come from Polish people, you all should be ashamed of yourselves. You should be directing your anger to the extremists that create these violent tragic events. If we all stood shoulder to shoulder we would have a voice. GET A GRIP
Several people have pointed out the bank details on the company facebook page. No offence, but nobody trusts me, yet you would allow me to transfer £40000 into an account posted on Facebook??? I cannot keep justifying myself. I am a working man who just wants to help the family of a fellow trucker who was brutally murdered whilst out doing his job! I did not expect this to be so big and without contact from his family I am at the moment stuck. Feel free to contact gofundme who will clarify no money has or will be withdrawn from the fund until Mrs Urban or her spokesperson says so Thanks
To the person who created this fund to help his family deserve a medal. The uk are branded as racist but it shows we aren't. This man as tragic as it is has not died in vein. The support shown towards his family shows the world how we can all unite as one that should be his legacy
Hi People, If someone did not noticed yet, Dave attached information including his telephone number. Just click to section "Read Last Update". Nobody knows it is true or fake, but I paid small amount of money believing it will reach Łukasz's Family. I personally believe there are still good people on this world and hope, Dave will keep as updated how the things are going on.
Hi @Dave Duncan I was also a truck driver and I am glad to see somebody actually thought of helping Lukasz's family. I support what you do and I am sorry for all the hateful comments from Polish people. I can assure you most of the people support what you do. Thank you.
Can I just take a moment to remind everbody of something. Zuzanna Urban didnt want any of this. On monday she was a normal wife busy making family plans for Christmas and looking forward to seeing her husband back home after his trip. She even had to cut short her last phone call with him because of work pressures. Please respect this lady and her family. The fund is there whenever she wants it. There are several people involved, myself included, before the money is transferred to her. It is not just me. And I can assure you it will go to nobody but Zuzanna. Im sure she would trade everything she has to go back in time and bring Lukasz home, but this is not a possibility. I thank everybody from the bottom of my heart who shared my views and donated to this campaign. I merely set it off, you all made it happen! Merry Christmas
If you see the reconstruction of the vehicle's track it is most likely that Lukasz saved the live of dozens of visitors of the christmas-market - men, women and chidrden. He died a hero. May his memory be blessed. May his family be comforted. May he rest in peace. - and may this campaign be overfunded.
Some of the comments on here are embarrassing, the Polish people should hang your heads in shame, a guy raises money from a legitimate online fund raising company, and he gets questioned. Some people need to have a damn good look at themselves, this is for a Polish truck driver, some of the Polish and English replies are shocking, far too many judgmental people on this planet. Well done Dave.
