Van for Oglala at Standing Rock

Donation protected
Two of my Oglala Lakota heroes from Pine Ridge Reservation  - Julian Bear Runner and Dom Cross - were arrested yesterday along with Chase Iron Eyes and 71 others at Standing Rock. They are still in jail (We think it's for setting up their camp on higher ground after being ordered to leave their camp on the lower ground and flood plain. Right. It makes no sense but is predictable.)

Every one of the peaceful water protectors there have gotten really sick lately enduring temperatures consistently below zero. Some have been coughing up blood. They've been diagnosed with "glass lung" due to being sprayed with gas that contains fiberglass.

The Oglalas' spiritual advisor is Ricky Gray Grass, a very wise Lakota on Pine Ridge 250 miles away in South Dakota.  He needs to go see them but has no car. Neither do the 12 Oglala youths I know who have been there for months protecting water and making a stand for Mother Earth on behalf of all of us. (I call them the tip of the spear, the worldwide effort to save our beautiful Blue Jewel of a planet. )

So funds are needed - well yesterday really -  so Ricky can go there just as soon as possible.

Any vehicle that runs and has four wheels would do for getting Rick to Standing Rock and that is the immediate priority.

However, it would be ideal to have a 12 or 15-person van - (preferably 15-person) to accomodate them all and their gear. Ricky initiates and runs many activities for Pine Ridge youths, including prayerful relay runs. They need a passenger vehicle big enough to accomodate 12 or more runners and their gear. Their best-known run is the 500-mile Sacred Hoop Run around the Black Hills every spring, retracing their Lakota creation story through three states.

The Oglala Lakota warrior water protectors now at Standing Rock are the 7th generation of Crazy Horse's tribe. They ran hundreds of miles there last fall in a sacred run from Arizona, helping a 15-year-old Hopi boy raise awareness. They were joined by youths from other tribes.

Their tribe has a van on Pine Ridge that can be borrowed; but it is smaller and often not available because it is shared among a tribe that is quite large on a big reservation with many towns.

I know Rick. He is a spiritual guide and selfless leader (chief) committed to help the struggling, impoverished youths of Pine Ridge realize their potential and purpose. Having a van would allow him to expand what he is already doing for the kids and young adults.

All donations to the 501c3 for the Gray Grass Youth Project are tax deductible.

I put $20,000 up as an arbitrary amount hoping for a decent used van and hoping to pay the regisration tax on it.  A new van with a warranty would cost more than $20,000.  A car with four wheels that runs just to get him there would cost far, far less.

Every single dollar is very appreciated!
