Family Nurse Practitioner

Thank you for coming to look at my page. My name is Valarie and I am a Registered Nurse from Canton, TX. I am a full-time emergency nurse as well as a wife and mother of four children and my stepdaughter.

A little background history on me-I started out my young adult life with many hurdles. As a rebellious teenager, I found myself a mother at the age of sixteen. With the support of my family and friends, I graduated on time with my class. Long story short and many poor decisions later, I found myself in a bad marriage with four precious little children by the age of 23.

Again, with the support of my family and friends, I was able to go back to college and in 2008 I became a RN. This was the most proud moment in my life, especially after learning that less than two percent of teen mothers obtain a college degree by the age of 30.

I am now remarried to a wonderful man and I accomplished another goal in my life that I thought I would never reach: I graduated with honors with my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in August of this year.

I found out Wednesday the news that I never thought I would hear: I have been accepted to the Master's Program for Family Nurse Practitioner!! I cannot describe how excited I am and what this means to me, especially when I look back on some of the obstacles I have overcome.

The reason I am asking for help is the program is very expensive, (almost $34,000 plus books). I am still paying on student loans from RN school and I do not qualify for grants. I will also remain working full time throughout the program as my husband and I still have a family to support in the mean time. I am trying to avoid more student loans, since some of my children will be starting college in a few years from now and I hope to be able to help them! I know times are tough for everyone, and I am having to really swallow my pride to ask for help, but if any of you are in the position to help me further my education, then I cannot thank you enough. If you aren't, then please keep me in your prayers as I start a very difficult journey that most who were once teen mothers do not get the opportunity to do. Thank you all for your support and helping me change the statistics for teen mothers. If I can do this, anyone can!!
